Real Salt Lake suffered a late loss against Nashville last weekend. Nelson Palacio, who subbed into the game in the second half, conceded a penalty against Nashville in stoppage time. Nashville converted their chance and the 1-1 scoreline, which had held for an hour, turned into a 2-1 loss for RSL.

Toronto FC have had a tough start to the season. Under Robin Fraser’s leadership, the team is still in search of their first win this year. They have 4 draws and 4 losses. The team has had five head coaches (plus one interim) since Greg Vanney left in December of 2020, and calling them in the midst of a rebuild would be kind.

RSL’s struggles on both sides of the ball continue. Despite a number of very bright players on the field, the overall quality of the team is below average for Major League Soccer in 2025. Without an above average center forward, the team is failing to capitalize on the chances the talented wingers are creating. The defense keep making simple mistakes, and a better side than Nashville would have taken the lead long before the stoppage time penalty.

With new ownership now in place, the Miller Family’s time as owners of the club begins. The reason for RSL’s lack of signings over the past few months is now much more clear — this deal has been in the works for some time and outgoing owners have no reason to spend big. The Millers are on the clock to build a winning team.

This game should be a time for current players to prove that they deserve to be in the team’s plans for the future.
