Let's play GM with RSL's 2024 offseason
It’s time for the 3nd Annual “Let’s Play GM”!
Two years ago, I was inspired by The RSL Show and made an interactive survey for all RSL fans to tell the world who they wanted to retain or cut during the offseason. RSL’s come a fair way since then, but I’ve been having fun with this so let’s keep the tradition alive! This year has the most accurate information on contract statuses yet due to a publication from the league about how teams are using their DP and U22 Initiative roster spots, so I’m excited to present more accurate information so you can make an informed vote!
For returning participants, the format is essentially the same (copy and paste is a lifesaver) with some minor adjustments. The first part of the survey gives you a player´s name, age, salary, roster designation, and contract status for the 2024 season. Then you choose what you want to happen with that player for next season based on the player's contract status. You get to do that with every player under contract with RSL, even if they were loaned out for the year or if they never saw the field. I also kept the end of season awards voting from last year. You get to vote for team MVP and Defensive Player of the Year, as well as give a shout out to the player you’re most excited to see next year.
The biggest change is the return of the Expansion Draft Protected List with the upcoming arrival of San Diego FC next year. I reviewed this year’s rules and as far as I’m aware, I have a pretty accurate list of who is eligible for selection in the draft. Two years ago there were some pretty interesting results from this with St. Louis’s Expansion Draft, so I’m really looking forward to see who you all pick!
