What we’re watching in CF Montreal vs. Real Salt Lake
RSL head to Montreal to start a 3 game week
Real Salt Lake face CF Montreal (formerly know as Club de Foot) on the road. Montreal have had a roughs season, winning just four games this year. They’re 12th in the east. RSL remain top of the west, on 33 points and 3 points clear of 2nd place LAFC. They recently beat Austin FC 5-1 at home, just before the international break.
Center back woes, continued.
Justen Glad picked up an ankle injury in training this week. He’s listed as out on the injury report, and with Marcelo Silva and Erik Holt also being out, we’re likely to see Philip Quinton along side Brayan Vera. Glad missing is a major blow to the team. The backline has been shakily of late, and he’s a skillful defender, but they should be able to weather a few games without him.
Chicho, again.
Chicho Arango might be the most fun forward RSL has ever had. He’s always a goal threat, and is even able to notice when the keeper is too high up and score from within RSL’s half. He can head the ball, he can shoot, he can create space and chances for other players. He's the league leader in goals, ahead of 2nd place by 3 goals. As long as he’s on this team, he will be a focal point.
Yellow card warnings
RSL have 5 starters sitting on yellow card warnings (Arango, Eneli, Gomez, Katranis, and Vera). If one of them picks up a yellow, they’ll miss the next game; away at Sporting Kansas City on Wednesday. Vera seems the most likely to get a yellow card, and he’s also the most irreplaceable player with 3 other center backs out injured. Cooler heads need to prevail for a while, or RSL will be out some key guys.
