Real Monarchs start their season at home against MNUFC 2

Real Monarchs kick off their season tonight at Zions Bank Stadium, in Herriman, Utah.
The Monarchs host Minnesota United 2 on the opening day for the second season of MLS Next Pro. Real Monarchs, who spent seven years in the USL, won the USL Championship Cup in 2019 and USL Regular Season in 2017.
The Monarch’s first season in MLS Next Pro saw them go on a thirteen game winless streak, losing eleven of those game before their first win. They finished out the year much stronger, with three wins and two draws in their last five games.
MNUFC 2, who were established for the 2022 MLS Next Pro season, have defeated Real Monarchs on both previous meetings between the two teams. Minnesota finished last season with 9 wins, 10 losses, and 5 draws.
This season sees another young roster, with only a few players returning from the 2022 season. They are led by former RSL center back Jamison Olave. This will be Olave’s fourth full season as Monarchs head coach, having done two stints as interim before he took over ahead of the 2020 season. This game will be our first chance to see many of these young players in action.
