Jonathan Menéndez loaned to Newell's Old Boys
The Argentine winger had his Velez Sarsfield loan terminated.
Jonathan Menéndez is back on the move, this time at Newell's Old Boys in Argentina following the termination of a loan spell at Velez Sarsfield, according to a press release issued by Real Salt Lake.
Menéndez, 28, remains on Real Salt Lake's books, having signed in mid-2021 while the club was led by former coach Freddy Juarez. He played only infrequently under current coach Pablo Mastroeni, with injury preventing him from making more sustained appearances.
The club notes the loan can be terminated "as necessary." No detail is readily available on why Menéndez's loan was terminated, though one would imagine a lack of playing time, with just under 300 minutes to his name, played a significant role.
Some Real Salt Lake supporters might recognize Newell's Old Boys for an historic RSL connection: It was a short-term home for Javier Morales between spells at Arsenal de Sarandi.
