Gómez arrival expected next week, Savarino still pending
The young Colombian is on track, while Savarino is dealing with visa issues
Real Salt Lake's squad is due a boost soon, with 20-year-old Colombian attacker Carlos Andrés Gómez set to join the team ahead of their preseason trip to Tucson, Arizona.
RSL coach Pablo Mastroeni told Bill Riley in an interview today that the winger is expected late next week.
The news wasn't all positive: Jefferson Savarino's arrival to preseason is still delayed pending the resolution of unspecified visa issues. Jasper Löffelsend, who was also dealing with visa issues, joined the team this week.
Quotes follow from the interview.
Today, he went and had his visa visit, and that went well. We anticipate him showing up probably Thursday or Friday of next week, which is perfect timing heading into Tucson. We're still awaiting Savarino's arrival, he's got some visa issues that we're still waiting for.
Jasper (Löffelsend) just joined the group a couple of days ago. We're slowly but surely getting the players dripping in, but it's always a challenge dealing with visas.
Speaking again about Gómez:
The important thing is he'll have at least two-and-a-half weeks of preseason with us, which is really important for a young player coming from abroad to a new country, a new league, new teammates, a new system. It'll take some time to integrate him, but we're really excited about having him on board soon.
