What we’re watching in LAFC vs. Real Salt Lake
RSL head to California to take on LAFC in the Leagues Cup
Real Salt Lake are coming off a good win over Liga MX side Club León. They went down a goal in the first half, stormed back with 3 goals in 12 minutes to advance in the Leagues Cup. They face a very good LAFC team. Despite Carlos Vela likely missing this game due to injury concern, LAFC did just beat Juarez 7-1 on Wednesday.
A return for Chicho and Moose
This will be Chicho Arango’s first time facing his former team since his departure in the winter. While Danny Musovski has played against LAFC since joining RSL, those two have been very good for RSL and LAFC fans must feel some regret about seeing them gone. Both strikers have complimented one another well, and they seems to only be getting better. LAFC will be a tough challenge, and these two will have a point to prove.
Dealing with a lethal attack
It’s been over a month since anyone prevented LAFC from scoring in a game. In that time, they’ve scored 13 goals across 5 games. RSL started the season with a very shaky defensive record. They’ve certainly improved since the first few months of the season, but mistakes have still been an issue for the team when they’re behind the ball. Since Justen Glad did not play against León, it’s likely he features in this game, which should improve RSL’s chances.
Impact subs
Many of RSL’s attackers from last season are now subs. Chang, Rubin, Kreilach (who was injured last year but was consistent before that), Julio, and even newcomer Andres Gomez is in this camp now too, can play a key role in providing a spark late in games. Rubio and Anderson have proven they can provide goals late in games, and now that RSL aren’t as reliant on late game winners, those minutes and goal provide a good change for players to prove themselves.
